One of the most transformative global economic trends has been the rise of the gig economy. The Gig Economy refers to an environment where short-term contracts are more prevalent than permanent jobs.
It is said that by 2020, 40% of workers would be independent contractors.
As well,with the increase of digital and disruptive technologies, Governments will feel the increasing pressure to keep up with the latest and greatest. That said, how do we shape our careers to prepare for disruption in this new economy?
As a Project Management professional we are positioned for success in this economy as the trend reflects the growing dominance of projects in the way we do work. However it does mean as PMs, There is an increasing need to be more nimble and prepared to handle different challenges. Biography:
(1) Disruption - Changing The Way We Work"
Manu Sud is a senior energy sector leader focused on the use of analytics and innovation to improve policies, programs, and quality. He has a strong academic background in Engineering, Sciences and Business and is currently pursuing Masters in Law. With more than 10 years of progressively senior management positions, Manu has broad experience across multiple sectors and organizations including federal and state Governments, IT, Finance, Automotive, Crown corporation (or state-owned entity), hospitals, and academia. Manu is a published author and has received numerous awards including the prestigious Ontario Public Service Amethyst Award.
Manu is a Manager in the Analytics and Advanced Technologies Team for the Ministry of Economics Development, Job Creation and Trade. Besides being an agent for change in government, he is a frequent speaker for Big Data Conferences not only in Toronto but even in Washington.
Manu will be speaking on “Disruption - Changing the Way We (Project Managers) Work" now and into the future.
(2) Working Digitally. Working Differently
Spencer Daniels is a Senior Product Manager with the Ontario Digital Service and co-chair of the Ontario Public Service (OPS) Web Coordinators Committee. He’s committed to connecting people, ideas and organizations to better understand user needs and build the right solutions. Before joining the Ontario Digital Service he held leadership roles at MyOPS and the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services’ Digital department. He believes that software, like people, is always a work in progress.
Spencer will be speaking on “Working digitally. Working differently”. Learn from Spencer how the Ontario Govt is going digital and what that means to be the way we work and deliver services to Ontarians.
(3) When CRM Meets PPM
Erin Leslie is a Client Relationship Manager at the City of Toronto, who focuses on leading IT initiatives with her clients (12 of the 44 divisions that make up City of Toronto) and building strong relationships between the divisions and Corporate Technology.
As a Leadership Coach, Erin spends her spare time enabling professionals to achieve their career aspirations through personal development planning and coaching.
She believes that every career could benefit from mentorship; she hates to see anyone get stuck, not knowing the right actions that will propel them towards their next success.
With over 20 years in IT bridging business and technology, supporting transformational projects and prominent strategist, she developed her skills through Global Consulting across Outsourcing IT, Retail, Insurance and Telecom industries; in addition to Client Relationship Management and leading high performing teams that thrive organically and deliver long term results.
