Synopsis:

A panel-style discussion where panelists will discuss how challenges seen in project management are addressed in both traditional and Agile ways. The panelists will be representatives from clients that we’ve had engagements with previously, from various industries. Representative industries will likely include: Public Sector, Healthcare, and Financial Services.

The differing perspectives, one favouring traditional methods, and one favouring Agile methods, are designed to spark a healthy debate. The panelists will also do some ‘mythbusting’ related to the two methods as part of the discussion.

Participants will gain insight into situations where it may be more suitable to use one method over the other, pros and cons of each, and the industry trends.

Learning Objectives:

• Develop a basic understanding of Agile concepts that can be applied outside of a traditional software development setting.
• Develop a basic understanding of transformational projects with a Healthcare lens including common challenges and key perspectives on transformation.
• Gain insight from industry case studies on how Agile concepts and tools have been applied in a Healthcare setting.

Biography:

Mary Sanagan
Mary is a Partner in the Toronto office and has over 18 years of large technology-enabled transformation experience in the Canadian and US health and public-sector markets. Mary is a certified project management professional and leads strategic/advisory engagements. Mary retains extensive knowledge of the Clinical Information System (CIS) market, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions, and departmental system design and implementations. She has executed large program management, including governance establishment, resource planning, and risk management. She has a strong knowledge of hospital and primary care operationally and clinical workflows. Additionally, Mary has excellent interpersonal skills and is I.T.I.L certified.

Mary is an active presenter at national conferences and is a published author. She is on the Board for Digital Health Canada.

Wesley Lynah
My career starts with 5-years of service in the United States Marine Corps where I first learned to lead teams and understand the importance of empowering colleagues to achieve their full capabilities. Finishing my military career, I joined a fortune-500 consultancy, Booz Allen Hamilton. At Booz Allen, I delivered IT solutions through Agile and DevOps methods. During my 10 years at Booz Allen, I took two leave of absences to live abroad and contribute to the U.S diplomatic missions in Poland and India. At Deloitte, I am a National Director in our Enterprise Agile Transformation Practice. In this role I help organizations adopt and scale Agile practices & behaviors to stay competitive and innovative in an every changing landscape. Beyond my practical experience, I have 15 internationally recognized certifications in Agile Methodologies, Project Management, Healthcare, Cyber Security, and Service Management as well as a Master of Science from the George Washington University’s School of Business.

Carrie Fletcher

Carrie Fletcher is the Senior Director, Health Information Management and Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) at CAMH. Carrie’s healthcare career spans 20 years and encompasses roles from frontline clinical care in cardiac diagnostics and cardiac rehab, primary care administration, clinical application project management, to her current role where she is accountable for CAMH’s; EPMO, Health Records, IT Education, Locating and Switchboard, Centralized Registration and Gifts of Light. Over the past five years Carrie has focused on building CAMH’s EPMO, a new entity at CAMH and has grown the office from a team of 1 to over 40 staff supporting close to 60 projects across all portfolios at CAMH – IT, Clinical, Professional Practice, Education, Research, Redevelopment, Foundation etc. Under Carrie’s leadership, CAMH’s EPMO was the recipient of PMI’s 2017 PMO of the Year award.

Robert Slepin

Robert Slepin is Executive Director for the Epic electronic health records program at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario. A Fellow of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), Robert has three decades of experience in healthcare information technology including senior IT leadership positions at Johns Hopkins Medicine International, Stanford Children’s Health and Sutter Health. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Duke University and has achieved certifications as a professional in healthcare information and management systems, healthcare CIO, enterprise IT governance and project management, completed a Six Sigma Green Belt program and attained certificates in health informatics, healthcare quality improvement, ITIL service management, COBIT and Lean IT.
