Black History Month Panel Discussion: Navigating Health and Wellness in a Corporate Setting
Synopsis:
Join PMI Toronto and PMILOC for a panel discussion to celebrate Black History Month on Thursday, February 17th. The panelists will share their experience, discussing how they have navigated health and wellness, and the impact disparities in this space have had on Black communities. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and be a part of the conversation as we work to expand our knowledge of anti-black racism and the responsibility we can each take to improve the health and wellness experience in Black communities.
Learning Objectives:
- Highlight the disparities in the health and wellness sector in Black communities and how microaggressions and unconscious bias converge
- Provide resources, tips, and insight on how we can improve the health and wellness experience in Black communities and the workplace
- Participate in conversations that challenge the status quo and allow you to expand your knowledge of anti-black racism

As VP, Business Architecture, Innovation and Delivery in TD Insurance, Michael is responsible for end-to-end delivery functions (including the Project Management Office) for TD Insurance, the #1 direct to consumer General Insurer in Canada.
As a graduate of Carleton University and the University of Massachusetts, Michael joined TD in 2001 and has worked in many areas including Retail Branch Banking, Product, Marketing, Branch Strategy, Insurance and Finance.
Michael grew up in Ottawa, and currently lives in Oakville with his wife Gillian and two young sons.
Jeff A.D. Martin

Jeff A.D. Martin is a soul-stirring, thought-provoking, highly requested transformational speaker, who has been using his platform to inspire people from around the world.
Much of Jeff’s love for people can be attributed to his years of involvement as a community advocate, a mentor and also to his 15+ years of experience in Law Enforcement. Jeff is an award-winning professional speaker, a certified coach, University of Guelph certified leadership professional, Harvard University certificate recipient for public speaking, Diversity & Inclusion Trainer from Ashton College and the curator of Inspire Legacy Company Online Academy, where he teaches the art of public speaking and student character development.

Jodie Glean-Mitchell
Jodie Glean-Mitchell has dedicated her career to developing educational programming in the field of antiracism, equity and inclusion. In 2011, Jodie attained her Masters of Arts in Educational Studies from Concordia University. Her graduate thesis is entitled, ‘Where is my History?’ – An Examination of the Representation of African-Canadians in the Montreal high school history textbooks, Panoramas volumes 1 & 2. Presently, Jodie is completing her PhD degree in Education at York University with her research focusing on the experiences of equity practitioners advancing racial equity and inclusion in postsecondary institutions.
Jodie brings more than ten years of experience working in the field of antiracism, equity and inclusion and established REACT – Race, Equity, Advisory, Consulting and Training Inc. in 2016. REACT offers education programming and consultation services to create spaces for organizations and government services to meaningfully engage in critical dialogue and action plans to increase racial equity, diversity and inclusion. In 2017, Jodie was the recipient of the Leadership in Learning Award from the Canadian Association for the Prevention of Discrimination and Harassment in Higher Education.
In 2020, Jodie was the recipient of the Harry Jerome Diversity Award. Jodie Glean-Mitchell currently serves as the Executive Director, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at University of Toronto.
Ted Paris
Vice President, Product, Strategy and National Office
TD Direct Investing
Ted Paris serves as Vice President of Product, Strategy and National Office for TD Direct Investing. In this role he develops and articulates the Direct Investing strategy, continuously improves our client segmentation to drive customer-focused decision making, and works with partners across the business to deepen the engagement with existing ones. He also heads the Wealth Black Experience Pillar.
Prior to joining TD, Ted was Managing Director at Essex Lake Group where he was instrumental in developing their banking, revenue growth, and analytics practices, leveraging his deep practical operation experience with analytical intelligence know-how.
Ted has been a member of the Executive Committee for Barclays in Spain. Prior to this, he served as Chief of Staff to the CEO for Barclays GRCB Western Europe. Before joining Barclays, Ted was at Citi Group and Booz Allen Hamilton where he worked on retail banking, insurance, and capital markets projects across the globe.
Ted holds a master's degree in Public Policy from Harvard University. He lives in Oakville with his wife Joelle and their three kids Amada, Sidney, and Sophia.

Denley’s goal is to provide leadership that engages and empowers management and staff. While leveraging his experience in cultural transformation, he shares best practices of people development (i.e. human resources) to develop an organization's culture and talent. He helps organizations, including ministries, to envision creating safe spaces for staff and management who see the value of diversity, inclusion and equity; and to practice those values as a high performing, inclusive and anti-racist organization.
For over 15 years, Denley has drawn upon his various experiences as a pastor, executive coach, public servant, project manager, engineer, social scientist, theologian, and community leader to relate to various stakeholder groups and deliver on their needs. Denley currently acts in the role of Inclusion and Understanding Advisor for The Meeting House.
