Title: Coaching and Mentoring in the Context of Leadership Development – How does this apply to me?

Synopsis:
This presentation will provide an overview of a leadership framework based on coaching and mentoring principles. Learn about critical success factors needed to initiate and establish successful mentoring relationships. Participants will walk away with tangible strategies and tools to become a more effective mentor or mentee in the journey to leadership development.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

- Understand how effective coaching strategies apply to leadership development conversations 

- Discover how to seek out a coach/mentor who effectively supports one’s leadership journey

- Learn about techniques on how to become a more effective coach/mentor 

- Use an evidence-based tool which guides effective coaching conversations on leadership development

Bio:

Hamida Bhimani is Head of Nursing Practice at the Regional Municipality of York, Public Health Branch, with responsibility for leading strategic initiatives in the areas of nursing practice and leadership. In 2013, she completed an advanced clinical practice fellowship with the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario, which focused on designing a framework for leadership development based on coaching and mentoring principles. Prior to joining York Region, she led research-based policy and program design projects at the Ministry of Children and Youth Services in the Early Learning and Child Development Branch. Hamida is also skilled in evaluating organizational performance having led best practice research work as a manager for the Hospital Report at the University of Toronto. Hamida is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from McMaster University. She also holds a Master of Health Science (in Administration) and a Certified Health Executive designation.
