GTIS BRANCH - CONSULTING & CAREER BUILDING FOR IT PROFESSIONALS
How does an IT professional win in today's competitive marketplace for job opportunities and consulting engagements? This interactive workshop focuses on understanding and building essential skills to help participants develop their careers as employees and consultants. Share your experiences and learn about strategies, tools and techniques. The workshop consists of four modules focused on: (1) Getting a consulting/career opportunity (2) Workplace Skills including Communication, Presentation, Facilitation and Team Building Skills (3) Your critical role as a consultant and (4) Building a Trusted Relationship. The workshop will address practical issues from the IT professionals and PM's perspectives and provide concrete ideas/techniques to leverage the skills.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn about winning in the competitive IT job market and Consulting/Contract engagements
- Understand the critical workplace skills for successful IT Career/ Consulting
- Learn about augmenting relationships and clients’ trust as an IT professional
- Become familiar with techniques to leverage your strengths

Biography:
Dhanu Kothari is a consultant and a professional speaker with 30 years of Project Management experience with HP, DEC, Honeywell, Nortel, Scotiabank, Univac and the Norwegian Computing Center. His clients in the public sector include CRA, City of Toronto and the York Region. He has presented at NASA PM Challenge 2009 and 2010, ProjectWorld, PMI SIGS/Chapters, DPI and IT symposiums. He is a past President of the PMI-SOC and the Rotary Newmarket. Dhanu has authored two books on Project Management:“Rainbows & Ratholes: Best Practices for Managing Successful Projects” and “From Ratholes to Rainbows: Managing Project Recovery”.

Cancellations must be received by 5:00 pm, 5 business days before the event and must be sent in writing by email to events@pmitoronto.ca. There will be a 20% administration fee charged for cancellations, subtracted from the refund. Cancellation/refund requests will not be accepted less than 5 business days before the event.
